Classified Federation James M. McGovern Award


The James M. McGovern Award represents the highest and most distinguished award conferred by the Classified Federation. Established in memory of James M. McGovern in 1948, the award is given to an executive, often a publisher or CEO, who is:

  • Dedicated to the improvement of classified advertising locally and/or universally;
  • Supportive of the promotion of classified advertising;
  • Actively supports local and national classified meetings and conferences; and
  • Employed by either a newspaper or is a provider of goods and services to the newspaper industry but, is not a classified advertising manager/director.

McGovern, former Classified Advertising Manager, The Pittsburgh Press, was totally dedicated to the classified field, always ready to help improve, build, and promote classified advertising, as well as active in national, regional, and local classified organizations.

Nominations for this award are solicited from the general Classified Federation membership and forwarded to the Award Committee, who identify the finalists and vote a winner.
