January 2007 — Houston, Texas Postpones Ordinance Regulating Newsracks Appearance

On January 31, 2007, the Houston City Council postponed by motion a proposed ordinance that would require city permits for newsracks, regulate their height, weight and color, and require the removal of abandoned racks. The proposal would require all newsracks to be forest green, in part because no major publications use fir green in their primary color scheme, and because the color is considered to be dirt-and-smog resistant.
