PRESSTIME

By Presstime Magazine

First Published: December 1995

They're smart, talented, driven. They come from towns and newspapers of all sizes. They can be found in the newsroom, the mailroom, the pressroom, the conference room. And they have one thing in common—they love what they do.

Once again, Presstime dedicates its year-end issue to younger newspaper people who envision newspapers' bright future and boldly bet their careers to make it happen. In our third annual Special Report focusing on 20 newspaper professionals under 40 years of age, other commonalities emerge. It doesn't matter which discipline within the newspaper organization they represent—new media are very much on their minds. Many of our subjects have been instrumental in crafting new services to leverage their newspapers' strengths in today's frenetic electronic environment. They put technology to work within their newspapers, creating new efficiencies and better service for both readers and advertisers. No one claims to have a fixed view of what he or she does. Instead, each questions everything in search of the right answers. And all see their connections to their communities as their most precious resource.

This year's 20 represent more than 100 nominees submitted by co-workers and supervisors at newspapers around the country. We thank everyone who took so much time and care to introduce them to us. Now, let us introduce them to you.
