20 Under 40 - 2000PRESSTIME
By Presstime MagazineFirst Published: December 2000
They've Got Whatever It Takes
Some brilliantly execute any job they're given. Others excel at surveying the workplace, identifying the next key challenge, and tackling it head-on. They all work well with others and have individual ways of communicating their personal visions of the industry's future.
Welcome to this year's Presstime 20 Under 40. More than 100 top newspaper executives nominated rising stars, sometimes several, for this eighth edition of this annual feature. With such a volume of talented candidates, selecting a representative sample of young newspaper people continually presents tough choices. As usual, Presstime editors and staff writers opted for maximum diversity—of companies, departments, racial and ethnic backgrounds, geographic locations and newspaper sizes. Some candidates have advanced degrees, some never finished college, but they all packed accomplishments into young careers and thrive among the challenges of a fast-changing world.
So come with us from the front office to the newsroom to the pressroom to the Web, then onto the streets with ad salespeople, circulation innovators, reporters and classroom volunteers. You'll see the industry's strengths in action as these up-and-comers plot and pursue their career courses and collectively move the industry to new heights. Their Presstime biographers: Rebecca Ross Albers, Anna America, Anitra Brown, Elise Burroughs, Nancy M. Davis, Heidi Ernst, Lisa Rabasca, Carolyn Terry and Rosalind C. Truitt.
