For the 10th time, Presstime presents 20 rising newspaper professionals who demonstrate the vitality and visions that drive the industry daily.

This is not a "top 20" list, but a chance to see and hear the ideas, thoughts and plans of some up-and-comers from the newsroom to the business side and from production to electronic journalism.

Selection of this eclectic group never comes easily. This year, Presstime received 81 nominations. The goals: provide a range of disciplines and job functions, draw from companies large and small, represent circulation and markets of all sizes, and in doing so, showcase what great opportunities there are in our industry.

While their duties vary, each person profiled in these pages signals publishers' desire to strengthen newspapers' value to readers and advertisers, deliver comprehensive news and information, and find ways to leverage the core product's strengths in today's ever-changing electronic environment.
