NAA/ABC Circulation Subcommittee’s Guide to U.S. Newspaper Digital Editions

NAA/ABC Guide to U.S. Newspaper Digital Editions

The ABC rules regarding the reporting and qualification of digital editions have undergone a series of changes during the past year. The NAA/ABC Circulation Subcommittee has created all-encompassing guide addressing the marketing of digital editions in a manner consistent with ABC reporting requirements.

The "NAA/ABC Circulation Subcommittee’s Guide to U.S. Newspaper Digital Editions" is a unique guide and is the product of collaboration between NAA and ABC. The Circulation Subcommittee’s communications team led the effort and designed three sections to tackle digital editions based on their own questions and experiences.

The first section breaks down the ABC rules to know and reference, qualification and reporting options, and the records and information you’ll need for the audit.

The second section presents close-ups of how individual newspapers of differing sizes and market conditions designed digital programs. Each newspaper shares their unique account of how they are pricing and recording their digital programs.

The third section includes a list of digital do’s and don’ts, an interview with NAA’s John Murray and a collection of helpful resources for creating your own digital program.

The NAA/ABC Circulation Subcommittee will continue its efforts to educate newspapers about the rule changes and their implications. Later this fall, NAA and ABC will host a webinar that will further explain the topics in this guide. Look for more information from the Subcommittee, including guides to branded editions and verified circulation in the coming months.
