U.S. Daily Newsprint Consumption and Inventories for March
In March 2008, preliminary estimates indicate that U.S. daily newspapers used 463,000 metric tons of newsprint, 15.2 percent less than the 546,000 tons used in March 2007. February usage was revised to 448,000 tons and -11.6 percent change. There were five Sundays in March 2008 and four in March 2007.
Newsprint inventories averaged 45 days supply at the end of March compared with 43 days a year earlier. Stocks were down 11.0 percent.
Estimates are derived from a stratified random sample of newspapers. This sample includes 208 daily newspapers, representing more than 50 percent of the daily circulation in the U.S. Data is collected from each newspaper every month.
