Hour-Long ‘Blogumentary’ and Web 2.0 in 5 Minutes

Online video sites, perhaps appropriately, are the home of some interesting and well-done work about online journalism.

Kansas State University Prof. Michael Wesch, who teaches a Digital Ethnography class, released a video called “The Machine is Us/ing Us.” The video is a mash-up of text, screen shots, video and free music, and it gives a basic evolution of Web 2.0 in about four-and-a-half minutes. It is the second draft, and the creator expects to release a final draft in the coming weeks.

In today’s Online Publishing Update, we also mentioned an hour-long blogumentary (documentary about blogs) posted on Google Video by director Chuck Olsen. From the video notes: “BLOGUMENTARY playfully explores the many ways blogs are influencing our media, our politics, and our relationships. Personal political writing is the foundation of our democracy, but mass media has reduced us to passive consumers instead of active citizens. Blogs return us to our roots and reengage us in democracy. Shot in candid first-person style by director Chuck Olsen.”
