New on the Digital Edge

'Snapshots,' RSS report released

We've posted a few new things on the Digital Edge Web site!

First, Snapshots! We're starting a series of quick-read articles on new initiatives by digital media folks at newspaper companies. If your company is launching a new feature or site, please let us know – we may feature your project in an upcoming article.

The first two articles:

The Bakersfield Californian's Inside Guide: As Dan Pacheco, senior manager of digital products for The Bakersfield Californian, described it, Inside Guide is “MySpace meets the Yellow Pages.” And that’s a pretty accurate description.

The Florida Times-Union's My Clay Sun: Morris Communications has proven that a hyper-local, Web-first community publication can increase both audience and advertising with Bluffton Today. Now, the company is trying for a repeat in Jacksonville, Fla.

Also released on the Digital Edge this week: Collaborative Media Series: RSS Part 2. The report is focused no exploring newspapers' current approaches to RSS syndication and monetization strategies. Part 2 aims to answer the questions, "How can newspapers retain their significance in a world of consumer-selected media delivery?" and "How will the Internet change when the Web isn't where you read content, but merely where you subscribe to have it sent to you or to search?" We published part one of the report late last year.

Remember to let us know whenever your newspaper does something interesting or innovative. Thanks!
