Kid, meet the candy store. For the next couple of days I’ll be blogging from the Tony Perkins AlwaysOn Stanford Summit. Some of you will remember Tony Perkins from Red Herring days. But, out here, what you did before whatever it is that you’re doing now is so… last quarter. In the shadow of the Stanford cypress – cradle to Yahoo! as well as Google – you can’t spit and not hit the next entrepreneurial change agent.
Got time for change? Of course you don’t. Me neither. But let’s assume you’ve already seen what’s on TV tonight. In that case, you can actually log on and watch the summit LIVE: http://alwayson.goingon.com/page/display/15568 (just remember to account for the time change). If you haven’t yet joined the AlwaysOn.goingon.com community, do it. If you want to watch Guy Kawasaki interview the new “Captains of Innovation,” do it NOW. They are:
• Craig Sherman, CEO, Gaia Online
• Paul Martino, CEO, Aggregate Knowledge
• Gil Penchina, CEO, Wikia
Just a word of – caution. I don’t work for you anymore. ;-). For reference, there are two “tracks” to this conference: the mainstage show, which looks much like your typical panel-based, topic-oriented fare. The second “track” is made up of dog-and-pony presentations from entrepreneurs looking for financing partners. What you see on stage is fair game. What I want to talk about in the other room, I will (and most of you know, I often can’t help myself. The urge to comment is strong…) But if I find anything I want to keep for myself, I can. Buy the ticket and come next year.
I will share this: The list of AO’s top 100 companies for 2007. If any of you want to send me private comments over the duration, feel free to drop me an email: melindag@gatehousemedia.com. Otherwise, share your own comments, or tell us about companies and concepts that are occupying your imagination right now. The "network effect" of this many great new media minds can only make it better.
What else can I say? It’s time to change.
Note to readers: Melinda Gipson will be blogging throughout this week from the AlwaysOn Stanford Summit. Gipson is currently Internet strategy and business development director at GateHouse Media. Until late last year, she was director of electronic media at NAA.
