Webinar, Audience Building Initiative and More Coming

The start of another productive week at NAA

I admit I slacked on the blogging a bit last week – but I had a really good reason: This fall, the Newspaper Association of America (my employer) will launch a database that includes a ton of the best practices and case studies we’ve produced in the past few years, alongside the Digital Edge and ACME award winners and finalists. NAA members will be able to search for best practices, case studies and more by topic, newspaper circulation size, keyword, etc. We’ll have a lot more details in September.

For now, though, I wanted to give you all a heads-up on what’s coming later this week:

When Professionals and Amateurs Converge: NAA’s GrowingAudience.com is hosting a Webinar with Kate Marymount, executive editor at The (Fort Myers, Fla.) News-Press. The Webinar will focus on how professional journalists and the community can work together. The Webinar is at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. Learn more (and register!) here.

Audience Building Initiative: The Racine (Wis.) Journal Times: By launching numerous blogs and successfully managing online comments, in just two years, the number of online users who visit the Racine (Wis.) Journal Times Web site regularly (once a week or more) more than doubled, and monthly page views more than tripled.  Find out how when we release the next Audience Building Initiative case study, by Rich Gordon of The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Update: The Audience Building Initiative case study about the Racine Journal Times is up online now at GrowingAudience.com.

Ventura County Star’s Studio805: With a bit of initiative and a lot of hard word, The Ventura County Star launched Studio805.tv earlier this spring. The site, an offshoot of the newspaper’s main site, is a hub of online video. Find out how The Star launched Studio805 and benefit from some of their lessons-learned with the latest Snapshot from the Edge.
