The
Newspaper Association of America (NAA) is a nonprofit organization
representing the $54 billion newspaper industry and over 1,800
newspapers in the U.S. and Canada. Most NAA members are daily
newspapers, accounting for approximately 90% of U.S. daily
circulation. Membership also includes many nondaily U.S. newspapers
and other newspapers published in the Western Hemisphere,
Europe, and the Pacific Rim. Information about NAA and the
industry may also be found at the Associationís Web site on
the Internet [www.naa.org].

Publishers Association, the Newspaper Advertising Bureau and
five other marketing associations: the Association of Newspaper
Classified Advertising Managers, International Circulation

Foundation
Founded
in 1961, the Newspaper Association of America Foundation is
the educational and charitable arm of NAA.
It
is dedicated to developing tomorrow's readers by encouraging
them to acquire and value information from newspapers and
other media. The Foundation achieves this objective by:
 |
Operating
programs that promote newspaper use by young people |
 |
Forming
strategic alliances |
 |
Making
targeted grants to leverage its resources. |
|
The
Foundation's programs are targeted at students in elementary
school through early college. The programs emphasize the use
of newspapers by young people, but also include the use of other
media. Foundation programs are concentrated in three major areas:
 |
Newspaper
In Education: NAA Foundation provides training to newspapers
and educators on the use of newspapers in schools; helps
newspapers develop strategic plans for promoting and marketing
their NIE services; and represents newspapers with a broad
variety of education partners. |
 |
Newspaper
Content for Youth: The Foundation serves as an information
clearinghouse on youth readership initiatives by newspapers
and will help newspapers plan and evaluate youth features
and other content for young readers and their families. |
 |
Student
Newspapering: The Foundation provides information and
resources to newspapers, educators, and young people to
support the publication of school newspapers. |
