NEXPO News

This year in Orlando, NEXPO will continue the successful Friday pre-show bonus session started at NEXPO'97. The '98 session, titled "Y2K--Boondoggle, Quagmire or No Problem?" will look at the computer challenges inherent in the Year 2000, including legal aspects and newspaper case studies. Peter de Jager, perceived by many to be a worldwide leader in creating awareness for the Year 2000 computer crisis, will address the potential problems industry will face with the new millennium and some current computer software applications that attempt to address them. De Jager will be one of four presenters during the three-hour session on June 19. (For background, see de Jager's World Wide Web site at http://www.year2000.com.)

Also offered this year will be a Saturday, June 20, morning session that will address "Pagination and Beyond." Four speakers have been confirmed and will address the current pagination issues as well as the "beyond," which includes the computer-to-plate process.

On Sunday, June 21, there will be a combined NEXPO/Connections workshop, still under development.

Monday, June 22, offers a general session and three workshops.

While the program for the general session remains in planning, topics and speakers for the three Monday workshops are set: "A Global View of Press Technology," "The Cornerstone of Newspapers: Quality Printing" and "Your Systems: Fantasy? Adventure? Forging Frontiers for Tomorrowland."

Tuesday, June 23, will also feature three 3 workshops and a combined NEXPO/Marketing general session. The workshop topics include "The Innovative Newspaper--Meeting Our Customers' Needs" and "Partners 2000." The third Tuesday workshop will focus on post-press.

NEXPO'98 will be held at the Orange County Convention Center June 20-23 in Orlando. Check NAA's home page at http://www.naa.org for regular updates.
