Hot Ideas
Some highlights from Sunday's Hot Ideas Breakfast Roundtable:
- The Watertown (N.Y.) Daily Times recently installed gray bars. Rich
Dietrich, production director, said, "We have had meetings with the
pressmen, the photographers and pre-press to get them all in the same boat, to
make sure that when we're printing, we go by the gray bar. We needed some
intense training for the pressmen because they didn't have the keys to go by.
But after a few weeks, we're right on target."
- Raymond E. Maly, vice president and production director of The
Times-Picayune in New Orleans, added this suggestion: "Encourage
advertisers who run process color to actually put a gray bar into their
ad--build it either into the composition, or in with the text, or at the bottom
of the ad--so you can provide good quality to that advertiser."
