Seen on the Show Floor

No conferences at NEXPO dealt specifically with environmental, worker safety or plant-management issues. Some companies, however, did exhibit products and services to help newspapers in these areas:

EckAdams Co. exhibited a variety of ergonomically designed office chairs that, the company says, meet or exceed all Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and help to reduce repetitive-motion injuries. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution recently chose EckAdams chairs for its newsroom after an ergonomics evaluation of chairs from approximately 20 different vendors.

Eclectic Co. exhibited its pressroom environmental systems, including paper dust, ink mist, noise control and waste-ink recovery equipment.

Fuji Hunt Photographic Chemicals Inc. highlighted its SilverHunter silver recovery system. The SilverHunter is an inline, closed-loop recirculating electrolytic unit that continuously and automatically lowers the silver concentration in the fixer tank. The company also displayed its ChemPact System of dry photographic chemicals, and washwater recirculation equipment for effluent control and environmental compliance.

Lockwood Greene discussed its services to help newspapers design effective and cost-efficient production facilities. The company offers business and operation planning, plant and office automation, architectural services, computer-integrated-manufacturing services and environmental management.

Luwa HVAC Filters exhibited its ink-mist air-filtration and paper-dust collection systems for pressroom ventilation. The company also provides blast gates and condenser parts.

Mar-Cor Environmental Services Inc. showed recirculating silver-recovery systems that meet silver discharge levels below 1.0 parts per million. The company also offers services to transport and dispose of publishing-industry waste products such as imaging films and papers, photo chemicals, contaminated rinse water, inks, solvents, blanket washes, make-up materials and contaminated debris such as roller wipes and rags.
