Looking to the Future

Some NAA members will soon have the opportunity to participate in a study of how newspaper executives plan and view the future. NAA is assisting in the research study, headed by W. Scott Sherman, former operations director of The Orlando Sentinel and currently a Ph.D. student in strategic and human-resource management at Texas A&M University. NAA is providing logistical and database support for the research.

Questionnaires will be mailed to the publisher, senior production executive and senior human-resources executive at each NAA member newspaper with circulation greater than 75,000. The confidential surveys will ask respondents about planning and operating practices, as well as their views of the future. The study will also examine these issues at overseas newspapers.

NAA members are encouraged to participate. An executive summary of the research will be provided to interested respondents, and Sherman will present the survey results at a future NAA meeting or conference.
