NAA's 1995 Health & Safety Conference, Newspapers and the New Regulators, will take place October 15-17 at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills, Calif. This vital conference will provide up-to-the-minute information on health, safety and environmental issues.
The conference will swing into action with a keynote address on the future path of regulation and its impact on the newspaper industry. Following this, a senior OSHA official will describe recent changes the agency has made in an attempt to become more "user friendly." These talks will provide valuable insights into events that are shaping future health, safety and environmental programs.
Along with this look at the future, you will also learn how to set up and run effective health, safety and environmental programs at your own newspaper. Real-world case studies from the industry will give you the tools to handle many of the toughest issues of the '90s---violence in the workplace, the stress of downsizing, workers' compensation claims and increasing worker productivity through ergonomic design. A full day will be devoted to environmental topics, such as the EPA Common Sense Initiative, air-pollution control, waste minimization, California environmental regulations and wastewater audits.
In addition, the Los Angeles Times will host a tour of its state-of-the-art Olympic facility, where you can see many of the latest breakthroughs in ergonomics, worker safety and health, and environmental controls.
The conference will conclude with hands-on, problem-solving discussions. Separate environmental and safety breakout sessions will allow you to discuss the issues that concern you the most and to hear about solutions implemented at other newspapers.
