A recently completed environmental-research study shows that more than 96 percent of the oil in black newsprint ink is trapped by newsprint during nonheatset web printing. These results will be used by states in establishing regulations for industrial emissions of volatile organic compounds.
The Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation funded the study. NAA partnered with the Battelle Memorial Institute to conduct the investigation. Copies of the completed study will be available from GAERF for $25 in December. For more information, contact GAERF Technical-Projects Administrator Mark J. Nuzzaco.
