DTP Pagination: The Hellish Problems
- Network management is much more complex than proprietary-system
management
- Existence of multiple vendors makes it difficult to assign responsibility
for problems
- Basic inside pages (those not requiring intensive design work) take longer
to paginate than on proprietary systems
- System integration is difficult
- DTP was designed for a single-user environment, newspapers are a multiuser
environment.
- Poor workgroup integration. DTP pages can be changed by only one person at
a time
- Requires more stringent editorial deadlines to avoid production bottlenecks
