Where the Web Mavens Meet

    by Randy Bennett

If you'd like to learn more about developing, managing and enhancing a newspaper Web site, you should consider joining NAA's New Media Federation.

The Federation, composed of more than 900 professionals at NAA-member newspapers, was established in January 1996 to help newspapers in markets of all sizes understand and make the most of the new electronic media. The New Media Federation is now the second largest of NAA's seven marketing federations.

Federation members hail from a variety departments at member newspapers. Their titles range from advertising director to Web coordinator and from business development director to operations manager. All share a common goal: to keep abreast of new-media activity within and outside the industry, thus ensuring their newspaper is well positioned for the future.

New Media Federation members receive discounts on Federation products such as Web.Help, a guide to publishing on the Web, and to CONNECTIONS, NAA's annual new-media conference. Members also have access to a dedicated Web site, "The Digital Edge" (www.naa.org/edge.html), that includes ongoing analysis of business models, technology, research, advertising opportunities, development tools and more.

In addition, all Federation members can join a listserv--an e-mail based discussion group that allows members to exchange ideas and information with their colleagues.

Membership in the New Media Federation is $75 a year. To join, or to receive more information, call (703) 902-1777.

    Randy Bennett is NAA's vice president of new media. E-Mail, bennr@naa.org; phone, (703) 902-1770; fax, (703) 902-1745.
