![]() New Year, New SectionsOver the next two issues, you will notice a subtle change in TechNews as we add two new sections to our coverage of newspaper operations and technology. A section in the front of the magazine called "Newsbriefs" debuts with this issue. In our next issue, we will add a regular department called "New Media" to our existing line-up of Pre-Press, Press, Materials, Post-Press and On Site. Let's look at New Media first. Until now, TechNews has reported only occasionally on the Internet and the World Wide Web, since Web efforts at most newspapers have, until now, been in the experimental stage. Clearly that is changing, as a number of papers attempt to merge their new-media and print operations. The day is fast approaching when "new media" will no longer be new at all, but a part of mainstream newspaper operations. We will provide you with the information you need to make this transition as smooth as possible. This issue's cover story on Web tools should give you some insight into our approach: We plan to steer clear of Web mania and Web hype, and focus instead on the nuts and bolts of building and maintaining Web sites. We will continue to give you news you can use. Of course, if and when other new-media channels open up for our industry, we will also cover their technical aspects in our New Media department. Our Newsbriefs section will be filled with quick-hit newsbites. It might seem like a bit of a stretch for a bimonthly magazine to even attempt this. You asked for more hard news to complement the "how to" pieces found in the rest of the magazine, though, and we're listening. As I've said many times before, it's your magazine. As always, we welcome and encourage feedback. Please feel free to contact us using any of the communication methods mentioned below. Also, please notice that our address, phone and fax are changing as we move from Reston to our new offices in Vienna, Va. Clark Robinson We've Moved!By the time you receive this issue, TechNews will have moved to Vienna, Va.
