MOVING UP

It's Two Jobs, Two Jobs, Two Jobs in One

Perhaps Don Rogers wasn't satisfied with merely being the president of a hot pre-press systems vendor--or maybe he was simply looking for an excuse to visit sunny Florida on a regular basis.

Rogers is president of Baseview Products Inc. of Ann Arbor, Mich. On April 30, he also became general manager of Baseview's parent company, Harris Publishing Systems Corp. of Melbourne, Fla.

Rogers now manages both operations simultaneously, commuting between Ann Arbor and Melbourne. "Right now, I'm splitting my time 50/50 between Baseview and Harris Publishing," Rogers says.

Being named general manager of HPSC is only the most recent accomplishment in Roger's long and successful career as a pre-press systems vendor.

During the 1960s and early 1970s, Rogers was co-founder and president of Automix Keyboards Inc., a company that manufactured typesetting keyboards. He then ran Computype Inc., until he sold the company to HPSC in 1976. In 1978, Rogers founded Deucalion, a software company that provided composition engines for typesetting. He was CEO of Deucalion until 1991, when he was named president of Baseview. Baseview became a division of HPSC in 1994.

When asked what it's like running two companies while commuting between Michigan and Florida, Rogers replies with a stock tip: Buy Northwest Airlines.

"I make Northwest Airlines very rich," he says.
