    Operation Overdrive

Be sure to buckle up for the third annual NAA Newspaper Operations SuperConference, January 11-16, at the Fontainebleau Hilton in Miami Beach. This year's conference theme--Driving to the Future--focuses on the latest developments in newspaper technology, ranging from new media and color quality to new pressroom technology and data warehousing. The program also looks at the new workplace and covers such topics as cross-training, productivity measurements, OSHA and EPA activities, and wellness programs.

"Once again, we have assembled some of the brightest and best-known speakers in the industry, from CEOs of major companies to innovative hands-on managers who have new ways to solve problems in the trenches," says Eric Wolferman, NAA's senior vice president of technology.

Keynote speakers this year include P. Anthony Ridder, chairman and CEO of Knight Ridder Inc., and Richard D. Gottlieb, president and CEO of Lee Enterprises.

The SuperConference provides a panoramic view of newspaper operations with segments on Pre-Press (January 11-13), Health & Safety (January 11-13), Press & Materials (January 13-14) and Post-Press (January 14-16). Registrants can attend the segment or segments of their choice or sign up for the full week of newspaper operations. The segments share a similar format with kick-off primers, industry outlooks, hot new technologies and core sessions. Participants also can tour The Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale.

For general information about the conference, contact Jennifer Portch at (703) 902-1846 or portj@naa.org. For registration information, call Jeff Sparks, NAA registrar, at (703) 902-1792 or visit NAA's Web site (http://www.naa.org).
