The Stock Photo Deskbook, a book listing all known sources of stock photography, has been on the World Wide Web since the fall (http://www.stockphotodeskbook.com), offering a search engine where users can locate sources of stock images by classification, category, name or Zip code. All sources are listed with their contact information and subject specialties, and interactive pages permit continued updating of data.

The Web site will be used to revise the data base for the hard copy sixth edition scheduled for publication in early 1998. According to Stephen Goller, managing director for Stock publisher The Exeter Co., information from picture buyers indicates that "many like to keep a copy of the book on their desks to make notes, while others appreciate the immediacy of the Web site."

The Web site continues the policy of the hard-copy edition established in 1977-no source is required to pay for a basic listing. Stock photographic agencies, individual sources, government and business sources, museum sources, media sources, picture researchers and foreign sources are all listed.
