Although computer-to-plate is the hot new newspaper printing technology, that doesn't mean that film and imagesetters are on their way out--yet. Among NEXPO debuts:

ECRM Inc. of Tewksbury, Mass., displayed its new Marlin family of imagesetters. They include head and tail punches and produce four-up separations onto photographic paper, film or polyester plate material. The resolution ranges from 1,000 to 3,566 dots per inch.

The Ultre 5800 4-Up has similar features, plus a PDF-enabled UltreRip 4.5 and optional punch. Jeff Buchman, area sales manager for Ultre of Melville, N.Y., said imagesetters now serve every job imaginable, with prices falling while performance improves.
