Croteau, Iobst Named VPs

Two NAA Technology Department staffers were recently promoted to vice president.

 Tom Croteau
Tom Croteau was named vice president of newspaper services. A recognized industry expert on color quality, Croteau has been with the Association since 1993. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the technology department and oversee the activities of the newspaper-services, production-materials, environmental-services and media-technology divisions.

He began his career at NAA as technical-training manager and was promoted to director of newspaper services in 1996. Before joining NAA, Croteau worked for nine years at USA Today as production coordinator, quality manager and production director. He has a bachelor's degree in printing production management from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Croteau can be reached by phone at (703) 902-1850, or via e-mail crott@naa.org.

 John Iobst
John Iobst was named vice president of technical research. A 21-year Association veteran, Iobst joined the American Newspaper Publishers Association (which merged with six industry associations in 1992 to form NAA) as a programmer/analyst. He was promoted to research manager for computer applications in 1983 and has been director of advanced computer science since 1991.

Iobst will continue his involvement in the development of technical standards and guidelines for many areas of newspaper production, including classified-advertising exchange standards, electronic data interchange guidelines for newspapers and advertisers, exchange standards for digital advertising, and wire-service transmission standards.

G. Charles Dix II was elected president of the PAGE Co-op of Boca Raton, Fla. He is vice president of Dix Communications and publisher of the Alliance (Ohio) Review.

Kathryn Downing joined the Los Angeles Times as president and chief executive officer. She had been president and CEO of Mosby Matthew Bender, which parent Times Mirror Co. divested this year.

Timothy J. Landon was named vice president and general manager of Sun-Sentinel Co., Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He had previously been vice president of strategy, research and development for parent Tribune Co., and also founded and served as acting CEO of Classified Ventures.

Joseph Richter was named president and chief operating officer of Ottaway Newspapers Inc., Campbell Hall, N.Y. He had been ONI's senior vice president.

Todd J. Warner was promoted to operations director of the Bucks County Courier Times in Levittown, Pa. He had previously served as the paper's production and systems manager.

Bill Williamson has been named vice president of newspaper operations for 21st Century Newspapers Inc., Mount Clemens, Mich. He had been 21st Century's production director.

Terry Betts has been hired by TKS USA Inc., Richardson, Texas, as a technical-service manager.

Alberto Cruz was appointed sales and applications support specialist for ECRM Inc., Tewksbury, Mass.

Carita del Valle was named marketing manager for Neasi-Weber International, Los Angeles.

Gary Demko was named Northeastern regional sales manager for Freedom System Integrators Inc., Wichita.

Robert Dye was hired as a Sho-Rack sales representative by Kaspar Wire Works Inc., Shiner, Texas.

Joanna Jullien was promoted to vice president of customer services for System Integrators Inc., Sacramento.

David Klimek was named sales representative for Sho-Rack's Minnesota, Wiscon-sin and northern Illinois territory by Kaspar Wire Works.

Adam Leff was named chief operating officer and vice president of Ad-Star Services Inc., Los Angeles.

Anne Markle was named SII's vice president of enterprise integration.

Kevin O'Haire was appointed executive vice president of sales and marketing for Cascade Systems Inc., Andover, Mass.

Glenn Peterson was named FSI's Southeastern regional sales manager.

Richard Peterson was named vice president of North American Sales for Opt-ronics International Corp. of Chelms-ford, Mass.

Gregory C. Rotelli was named SII's vice president of marketing.

Perry Sapp was hired as vice president of circulation systems by Neasi-Weber International.

Dick Steensma was appointed president of Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based Autologic Information International's Xitron
division.

Homer E. Taylor Jr. has been named president and chief operating officer of George R. Hall Contracting, Avon Lake, Ohio.
