Gerry Chairo was named senior vice president of marketing for Classified Ventures Inc., Chicago. He had previously served as director of marketing, brand strategy and menu marketing for McDonald’s Corp.

Ronald Dupont Jr., who launched the award-winning Internet edition of the Sun Herald of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., was named general manager of St. Petersburg Times Online.

Greg Eckstrom was named vice president of marketing for Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive. He had been part of management teams of several new-media companies, including Cybermeals Inc.

Susan Klutnick, director of operations at the Los Angeles Times’ Olympic facility, has been named the recipient of the 1998 Naomi Berber Memorial Award. The Berber Award was initiated in 1976 by the Society of Fellows of the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation to honor women in the printing industry.

Renee LaBran, Los Angeles Times vice president of new-business development, was named vice president for print and new-media classified advertising.

William Lieb joined the Times Herald Record, Middletown, N.Y., as production director. He had previously worked at the Centre Daily Times, State College, Pa., for 17 years.

Russell Leseberg has been named interim director of production for The Globe and Mail, Toronto. President of consulting company Avail Technologies, Leseberg will also serve as manager of Thomson Newspapers’ print-quality initiative.

Rick Lutz was named vice president of information technology for The Dallas Morning News. He had previously been information-systems manager for parent A.H. Belo’s information-technology division.

Peter Marx, chairman of Internet consultancy the Marx Group, was named to Community Newspaper Co.’s Internet Advisory Board.

James Maguire was named director of marketing for Classified Ventures’ cars.com.

Roger Parkinson, chairman, publisher and chief executive officer of The Globe and Mail, Toronto, was appointed to IFRA’s board of directors.

Carol Perruso, formerly general manager of the Los Angeles Times’ electronic edition, was promoted to Times vice president and president of latimes.com.

Jon Roe has been promoted to vice president of information technology for A.H. Belo Corp. in Dallas. Roe was director of information technology.

Craig R. Savage was named director of affiliate relations for Classified Ventures’ cars.com.

Gene Tye was named president and chief executive officer of the Pottsville (Pa.) Republican’s New Horizons Team.

Gordon J. Jones was hired by System Integrators Inc., Sacramento, as treasurer and corporate controller.

Steve Mate joined Mactive Inc., Melbourne, Fla., as a senior project manager.

James P. Sheehan, currently a Goss Graphic Systems board member and former president and chief operating officer of A.H. Belo Corp., was named chairman of the board of directors for Goss, based in Westmont, Ill.

Walter Shumacher was named executive vice-president for web-press sales and marketing for Koenig & Bauer AG, Wurzburg, Germany.

Frank Winters was named vice president of services for Cascade Systems Inc., Andover, Mass.

Douglas Young was named chief technology officer of Zip2 Corp., Mountain View, Calif.

Peter Brehm was named president and chief executive officer of the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association, Washing-ton, D.C.

Richard W. Harold has been named senior color scientist in the research group of the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, Sewickley, Pa.
