NEXPO's Powerful Visitors

Who attends NEXPO®? Newspaper people with considerable buying influence. What's more, the spend far more time on the exhibition floor than people at other trade shows—and tend to come back year after year.

In advance of NEXPO'99, to be held June 14-17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, NAA released revealing statistics from a survey of the previous year's showgoers. Conducted by Exhibit Surveys of Red Bank, N.J., findings for U.S. and Canadian NEXPO'98 attendess include:

  • 86 percent have buying influence for one or more products exhibited.

  • 73 percent planned to buy one or more of the types of products exhibited within the next 12 months, a significantly higher number than the national all-show average of 61 percent.

  • Attendees spent an average 12.7 hours viewing exhibits over an average 2.8 days, far above the national all-show averages of 8.4 hours and 2.1 days.

  • 48 percent attended NEXPO'97, 37 percent have attended NEXPO for three or more consecutive years, and 31 percent were first-timers.

  • 73 percent have not attended any other show in the past 12 months, well above the 56 percent all-show average.

  • 80 percent work for newspaper companies; of those, 40 percent work for independent papers, 60 percent for groups.

  • 67 percent went to NEXPO'98 to see new products and developments, 65 percent to compare products for future purposes, and 49 percent went to see a specific company or product.

  • 23 percent worked in general administration, 19 percent in production, 18 percent in sales and marketing, and 17 percent in information systems, networking and online functions. (The sales and marketing numbers skewed slightly higher in 1998 because NEXPO was held in conjunction with NAA's Marketing Conference.)
