In Tie, 2 Named New Media Pioneers

In a first-ever tie, Peter Levitan, president of New Jersey Online, and Melinda Gipson, NAA's new media business-development director, have been voted New Media Pioneers by their peers in NAA's New Media Federation.

Levitan, immediate past president of the NAA New Media Federation, oversees New Jersey Online, one of the state's most popular sites. A frequent speaker at industry events, he has written about Internet marketing and advertising for the Edge Unplugged, the NAA New Media Federation newsletter, and for Advertising Age.

Gipson helped develop NAA's original World Wide Web site, as well as The Digital Edge (www.digitaledge.org). She founded the New Media Business Development initiative, which identifies new-business opportunities and partnership options for the industry, and helped develop NAA's New Media Fellows instructional program for minorities. In addition to her monthly Presstime column, Gipson has authored several publications, including Opportunities in Anarchy, Winning the Digital Ad Wars, Web.Help and Saving Main Street: An E-Commerce Call to Action. This summer, she also taught the inaugural MBA Internet advertising course at American University's Kogod School of Business.
