Wolferman Leaves NAA

Eric Wolferman, who led NAA’s Technology Department in creating several new publishing-industry standards, a new conference and a new magazine, stepped down in September to pursue other opportunities.

"We have accomplished much in the past five years," said Wolferman, the Association’s senior vice president for technology. "We have brought important standards to the industry for digital-ad delivery, print reproduction and electronic classifieds. We have brought much-needed attention and resources to help improve color printing in newspapers. We have established TechNews as one of the most respected sources of newspaper-technology information, and we have developed the Newspaper Operations SuperConference as the foremost educational conference in the industry." (See column, p. 5.)

Wolferman also cited the department’s work to "cultivate strong relations with research organizations in other parts of the world," as well as research projects on topics ranging from alternative newsprint fibers to computer-to-plate technologies.

"We have successfully revitalized technology activities at the Association," he said. "It has been an exciting and stimulating time for me. I’m now looking forward to spending more time with my family and seeking new directions for my career." Wolferman is now considering consulting for publishers or industry suppliers.

"Eric Wolferman has many achievements at NAA and has served the membership with distinction these past five years," said John F. Sturm, NAA president and chief executive officer.

"I hope my years with the association will be viewed as a significant contribution to our industry," Wolferman said.
